etermio is a German online appointment scheduling and customer engagement service. It lets visitors book a meeting, a demonstration or a service slot directly from a website through an embeddable booking widget. The widget loads JavaScript from etermio servers and exchanges data such as available slots, contact details and the booking confirmation.
When the widget loads, etermio sets first party cookies such as etermio_session for the booking session and _et_user_id for visitor identification. It also stores values in localStorage. Personal data processed includes the booker name, email address, telephone number, chosen time slot and any free text comment.
The actual booking is processed on the basis of Article 6(1)(b) GDPR, since the booking is a pre contractual or contractual measure requested by the data subject. The loading of the widget and the storage of cookies on the device require consent under Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive and Section 25(1) TTDSG in Germany.

etermio is hosted in Germany and processes personal data inside the European Economic Area. There is normally no systematic transfer of booking data to third countries. Controllers should still document the processor relationship in a written agreement under Article 28 GDPR.
A formal DPIA is not generally required for low risk appointment scheduling. When the booking flow handles health, legal or other sensitive subject matter, a DPIA under Article 35 GDPR is recommended, with a focus on retention, access controls and minimization of free text fields.
Block the etermio widget until consent is collected, list etermio in the privacy notice and the cookie banner, sign a data processing agreement with the provider, document retention of booking records and configure the widget to capture only the data fields strictly needed.
Websites using etermio must obtain user consent under GDPR regulations.
DPIA considerations
A DPIA is not strictly required for a standard appointment widget, but a record of processing activities should describe data collected (name, email, phone, appointment details), the legal basis, retention and the role of etermio as processor. Where sensitive categories (for example health appointments) are booked, a full DPIA under Article 35 GDPR is recommended.

Two bases apply. Article 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent) covers the placement of cookies and loading of the widget. Article 6(1)(b) GDPR (contractual measures) covers the actual processing of the booking request.
No. etermio is hosted in Germany and processes data inside the European Economic Area. There is normally no systematic transfer of booking data to the United States or other third countries.
A full DPIA is usually not required for ordinary appointment scheduling. It becomes recommended or mandatory when bookings concern sensitive subject matter such as health, legal or social services.
Load the widget only after consent, sign a data processing agreement under Article 28 GDPR, list etermio in the privacy notice and cookie banner, configure only the required fields and document the retention period for booking records.
Other appointment platforms include Calendly, SimplyBook, Microsoft Bookings and self hosted tools such as Cal.com. Each has its own hosting location and cookie footprint that must be assessed before deployment.
